AI Adoption Framework
A practical, phased approach to introducing AI into HR without losing the human core.
The question
“What does responsible, meaningful AI adoption look like inside a people function?”
Why this matters
Every HR function is now being asked the same question by the CEO: “What is our AI plan?” A rushed answer creates fragile adoption. A slow answer looks like disengagement. The framework we build here has to hold both truths.
Original viewpoint — Swati Jain
Responsible AI adoption in HR is not a tooling question — it is an operating model question. My current framing has five stages: Curiosity, Experimentation, Governance, Integration, Reinvention. Most functions try to skip from Curiosity to Integration and fracture on the way.
The stage most under-invested in is Governance. Without a clear stance on data, on employee consent, on model transparency, everything downstream is fragile.
The stage most rushed is Integration. Real integration is not “we bought a copilot” — it is a re-designed workflow in which AI, HR, and the manager each have a defined role.
Community thought space
Prompts I would love perspectives on:
- What is the single AI use-case where your HR team is genuinely differentiated today?
- Where has AI been introduced without re-designing the underlying workflow — and what has that cost?
- What does “human in the loop” actually look like in your HR function — not on the slide, but in practice?
